Deskripsi
Disasters are one of the global threats that need to be addressed with joint action and commitment. Since 1989–2030, a framework or commitment has been agreed to reduce the impact of disasters. Increasing disaster resilience is included in the national priorities and efforts to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). One of the important disaster management efforts lies in the communication aspect.
There has been a shift in the disaster management model where communication patterns become an indicator of the success of disaster management. This is demonstrated by the change in multiparty involvement from triple helix to pentahelix and now towards multiple helixes. In the pentahelix, mass media is one of the pillars, which means that disaster communication problems in the public space need mass media support. Disaster management leadership requires a pillar of disaster communication, so that decisions taken can be implemented and do not become obstacles.
This book is expected to bring a broader perspective by embracing the idea of sustainable development. Sustainable development is a framework that pursues a balance between economic growth, environmental protection, and social justice. In this context, disaster communication becomes an important element in achieving sustainable development goals. How we communicate about disaster risks, mobilize communities, and support behavioral change has a major impact on the quality of life and the sustainability of the planet. This book also combines the knowledge and experience of various experts, practitioners, and stakeholders who are dedicated to understanding the role of communication in disaster risk reduction efforts and achieving sustainable development.
